Current Exhibition

Japan Design Committee is pleased to “Baskets Shigeki Fujishiro” as the 792nd exhibition at the Design Gallery 1953.
Shigeki Fujishiro is a product designer who is active both in Japan and abroad, and has exhibited his works for famous overseas brands. In recent years, he has moved to Miyota-machi, Nagano Prefecture, where he continues to create and present his works.

In this exhibition, we will showcase 27 of his creative works along with his encounter with the product “Basket” and the path he has spun. These works, including those presented in the “BASKETCLUB” Instagram design project, are all designed with the assumption that they can be used in everyday life, While envisioned for actual use in everyday life, they also have the presence of art pieces. Visitors will be amazed by the fascinating style of these works, which incorporate Mr. Fujishiro’s playful spirit, as well as the diversity of the materials used.

Message from Gen Suzuki, Exhibition Director

Fujishiro’s baskets are intriguing. The majority of the baskets showcased here are crafted from materials readily available to anyone at a DIY store. You will be captivated by the hidden beauty of familiar materials like vinyl sheets and cable ties. They seem like design objects, yet also feel like crafts; they appear unconventional, yet at the same time feel like familiar everyday tools. With a childlike curiosity, he engages with the materials, and the forms born from immersion and chance are as fresh and vibrant as if they were singing.
