Single-handled pot 22cm

1963 | Sori Yanagi | Sori Yanagi

I wonder if the “naturalness of the aesthetic sense“ of Yanagi’s designs is because he grew up in a family that was a proponent of folk crafts and was used to eating Bernard Leach and Hamada Shoji’s vessels in his daily life. I felt this when I visited the Mingeikan West Wing (the former residence of Muneyoshi Yanagi). Yanagi’s kitchenware is sized to be used in combination: the 18cm single-handled pot, the small frying pan, their lids, and the 19cm colander and bowl can be stacked, and the lids can also be shared. There is a naturalness to the design without waste.
