Japan Design Committee is pleased to present the “Tsu-tsu-mu: Design Typology for Care and Inclusion ” this fall at the Matsuya Ginza 8th Floor Event Square as part of the 100th anniversary commemorative project for Matsuya Ginza’s opening.
The theme of this exhibition is “Wrapping.” We collect instances of ‘wrapping’ found everywhere from nature and daily life to cities and the environment. Through examples like eggs, rice balls, packaging, chairs, and museums, we reexamine design from the perspective of “wrapping = care.”
The venue features seven themes centered on “wrapping,” displaying approximately 100 works and examples. It unravels the essence and potential of wrapping as a new design practice called “Tsu-tsu-mu,” proposing it as a clue for gently connecting the world.

Exhibition Concept
The shell of a bird’s egg envelops a new life.
A present that passes from one hand to another is wrapped with paper.
We spend our lives in buildings that surround us.
And by embracing and acceptingall that makes up society
both the material objects and the diverse people we enrich the lives of everyone.
It could be that our world is built upon an endless cycle of that which surrounds and that which is surrounded.
But is being exposed and scattered truly the optimal state for any and all objects?
This exhibition perceives tsutsumu by which we connect an object’s inside and outside while showing consideration to another person ̶as a new typology of design.
It then unveils possibilities by revisiting works and actions that relate to tsutsumu.
Our hope is that this book will provide some insights into how we can steer the world in a better direction.
