Torii Stool

Riki Watanabe

The Torii stool is a monumental work that marked the debut of Japanese design to the world. In 1957, when Japan was invited to the Triennale di Milano for the first time, Chikara Watanabe designed and exhibited the stool, which won the Gold Medal. The key point of the design is the curved lines that make use of the characteristics of wisteria.
